Photo Matted Framed Print
About the artist:
Both my mother and her sister were artists, so I guess art is in my blood. They painted on canvas mostly, which I dabbled in and enjoyed; but I wanted to do something different, so I took up photography. I didn't get serious about it, though, until after our first trip to Alaska in 2006. Once I gazed upon the breathtaking beauty there, I knew that I wanted to be a landscape photographer. Making landscape photos and living in Florida turned out to be a real creative challenge, however. We don't have the mountains, canyons, and great waterfalls found elsewhere, and traveling to the locations that do is expensive. One or two trips a year in the summer months had to suffice. So, I started photographing birds during the winter to pass the time. The next thing I knew, I was hooked. Though I still love landscape photography more than anything, much more of my time is now dedicated to birding.
I've been told that my pictures are different from other photographers. Recently, I've been thinking a lot about why that is. Maybe it has to do with my college days when I had a fascination with the great oil painters of the Renaissance like Van Eyck, Rembrandt and DaVinci. I don't know if my photos have that look, but the artists definitely influenced me.
My goal is to create fine art through photography. To me, fine art is a visual image that captures one's eye from across a room and draws one to it for a closer look. Then, it compels one to say, "I Love It!"
